Hudson Valley tourism marketing awarded to Mount Kisco’s Co-Communications

Co-Communications, Inc., a marketing communications firm with offices in Mount Kisco, Manhattan and Hartford, Conn., was selected as the Hudson Valley Tourism agency of record. The firm will partner with Harquin Graphics, Inc., a branding agency, to promote the Hudson Valley region as a leisure and business destination.

The Hudson River Valley is comprised of 10 counties: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester. As Hudson Valley Tourism’s “agency of record,” Co-Communications will be responsible for all public relations, advertising and online marketing initiatives.

“The Hudson River Valley is not only a vibrant tourist destination rich in beauty and history, but also a vital place to do business, and enjoy leisure time with family and friends,” Co-Communications president and founder Stacey Cohen said in a statement. “We are thrilled to partner with Hudson Valley Tourism to highlight this remarkable region and enhance its tourism.”

In 2011, visitors spent $4.6 billion in the Hudson River Valley, creating 82,527 direct jobs and generating $567 million in state and local taxes. Recently ranked No. 2 in its top ten travel destinations, Lonely Planet describes the Hudson River Valley as “a real city break, with leafy drives, wineries and plenty of farm-to-table foodie options.” National Geographic Traveler also named the Hudson Valley one of the top 20 must-see destinations in the world.

State Grant To North Salem Library Tops Week's News

Here are some of the stories that topped the news in North Salem last week:

• The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library has been given money by the state to purchase new DVD's based on local residents' interests.
• Northbound I-684 in Bedford reopened after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in its closure for nearly an hour.
• Gregory McCarthy, a New Castle teen who went missing, was found safe.
• Nearly 65,000 residents in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties now have health insurance via the New York state insurance exchange, according to LoHud.com.

Westchester Legislators Approve $5M In Funds For County Roads, Bridges

 The Westchester County Board of Legislators unanimously approved a $5 million capital budget amendment and a corresponding bond resolution to rehabilitate 40 roads and bridges throughout the county.

The budget amendment was put into place due to the unusually severe weather of winter 2013-14.

The scope of work goes from rehabbing short sections to complete milling and resurfacing of road surfaces.

The bridge work that is being planned will consist of bearing rehabilitation, joint replacement, structural steel rehabilitation, concrete replacement, substructure reconstruction, abutment reconstruction, deck reconstruction, surface replacement, railing replacement, stone masonry reconstruction and sidewalk and curb replacement.

"The condition of these roads has made them difficult on our residents and their vehicles, so I am glad that there will be repairs," Legislator MaryJane Shimsky (D -Hastings-on-Hudson) said in a statement. "But I am concerned that this is relatively minor work, compared with what needs to be done; and that we have many other roads in equally bad shape. If we spend millions on projects like this, I fear that we may end up taking money away from the major reconstruction that we need. "

The design phase of the work is expected to take as little as two months and the construction phase is anticipated to take three months to complete.
